The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Cardinals spent their marquee pick on Carson Beck, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The cost of the Beck reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hart. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Terrion Arnold at pick No. 34 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value said wait; Zak Zinter in slot 66 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in the 70th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Malik Washington in pick 85 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Christian Haynes in No. 102. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They read the board right and Troy Fautanu was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had cheaper options than Ty'Ron Hopper at the 139th pick, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Bryce Foster in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Hart in pick No. 198 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They paid a round early for Carson Steele in No. 223, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Mario Williams at the 226th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
