Nobody else had Quinn Ewers anywhere near Round 2, Pick 12. The Vikings did, by 20 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Melton. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quinn Ewers at Round 2, Pick 12 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gabriel Murphy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Max Melton come to them and pounced at No. 127. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No drama and no debate, Jaylan Ford went about where he belonged in the 149th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
They liked Josh Proctor enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 165. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Jacob Cowing at pick 179 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 20 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cody Schrader in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
