The Eagles put a flag in the ground for Austin Reed, 31 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A F, plain and simple.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Eagles indulged a want in Colson while a need in interior defensive lineman stayed open. On value alone, Liufau makes the weekend a net positive.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Nubin is a better player than the 49th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in No. 50; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Junior Colson while clear needs at interior defensive lineman sat open.
They read the board right and Cade Stover was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 20. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Calen Bullock all the way to the 112th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Malik Washington here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Matt Goncalves at slot 120 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in the 123rd overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Beaux Limmer at No. 127 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Anthony Gould at the Round 5 slot is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mason McCormick in Round 5, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Marist Liufau at the 208th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A quiet steal in the 210th overall pick: Jase McClellan for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Washington at pick No. 223 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Austin Reed at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
