The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Shedeur Sanders, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
That Sanders pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Sanders has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 21 with a little surplus value in Jordan Morgan. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Shilo Sanders at pick 78, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They read the board right and Zak Zinter was the payoff at the 97th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Blake Fisher slid further than he should have, and pick No. 114 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brenden Rice in No. 124 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaylan Ford at slot 172 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reach for Keith Randolph Jr. in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Tyler Guyton at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Raheim Sanders at pick No. 235 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Joshua Gray come to them and pounced at slot 242. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
