The Eagles did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Tahj Washington fell into the 240th pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Johnson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Steal is underselling it; Kool-Aid McKinstry at Round 2, Pick 14 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Junior Colson in the 53rd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Kamren Kinchens was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A need, and now a little less of one.
DJ James slid further than he should have, and pick 97 is lovely value for the cornerback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Jordan Travis in pick No. 160, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Dillon Johnson went about where he belonged in slot 170. The roster fit checks out.
AJ Barner in No. 171 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cornelius Johnson a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tahj Washington in the 240th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
