Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

ValueB-

FutureB
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Patriots a B+. The Patriots looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Traeshon Holden at the 238th pick regardless, 127 picks early. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The Giddens value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Walker pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and quarterback.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick59
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Circle this one: Jihaad Campbell at No. 59 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick63
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tyleik Williams
A tidy bit of business in pick 66, where Tyleik Williams graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 69th overall pick on Jalon Walker with edge rusher and quarterback unsolved.
Pick77
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at pick No. 77 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick97
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
They talked themselves into Emery Jones Jr. at Round 3, Pick 33, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
A quiet steal in the 104th pick: Kevin Winston Jr. for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
This one needs a full-page explanation: Davison Igbinosun in Round 5, Pick 1, miles early. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick143
Rnd5
Ja'Corey Brooks
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ja'Corey Brooks. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick159
Rnd5
Carson Schwesinger
Somehow Carson Schwesinger was still sitting there in No. 159, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jalen Rivers
They reached a country mile for Jalen Rivers at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220
Rnd7
DJ Giddens
A running back of that caliber at pick 220 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238
Rnd7
Traeshon Holden
A real head-scratcher, Traeshon Holden in pick No. 238 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
