Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureA+
Maye is the Commanders' new face under center. Grade: B+. Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They will need Allen to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That Sinnott pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick No. 5 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in the 36th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick53
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Fair-plus on Patrick Paul, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 54 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Junior Colson in Round 3, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick67
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A reach on Cooper Beebe in pick 67; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in slot 71, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They went early on Khyree Jackson in the 97th pick, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick101
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
A conviction pick on Leonard Taylor III at pick No. 101 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick155
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick181
Rnd6
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They did well to land Zion Tupuola-Fetui in No. 181, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
