After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Washington. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Nothing to complain about; Payton Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Blake Fisher in the 77th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Braelon Allen in slot 112 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in No. 148, and that is fine. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Tahj Washington at pick No. 208 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Johnny Dixon at Round 7, Pick 3 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Trey Taylor went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
