Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
McCarthy is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a B+. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Reaching for Nugent left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
On value alone, Sinnott makes the weekend a net positive. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In No. 9 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick11
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In pick 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick23
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In pick No. 23 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in slot 27, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick49
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
A wild overpay on Ruke Orhorhoro in the 49th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick108
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They paid a round early for Johnny Wilson in Round 4, Pick 8, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick122
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
A real head-scratcher, Mason McCormick in the 122nd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick138
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ben Sinnott in the Round 5 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick152
Rnd5
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini in slot 152 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick167
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent in pick 167 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
