If confidence were a draft strategy, the Raiders would have aced it. Dylan Laube at No. 112 is 45 spots clear of where he belonged.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Taliese Fuaga at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braden Fiske in No. 44 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Spencer Rattler in the 77th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Dylan Laube in slot 112 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Mason McCormick in pick 148 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Ro Torrence still on the board at Round 6, Pick 33. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tyrice Knight at the 223rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor itch, scratched.
The board had cheaper options than Bub Means at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
