You build a draft on nights like this. Ricky Pearsall had no business being available in slot 249, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Holker reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick 45 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
They let Kalen King come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 28. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Will Shipley in No. 97; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Smael Mondon Jr. in the 137th pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A tidy little value on Mike Sainristil in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Billy Bowman Jr. at slot 172. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Dallin Holker in pick No. 178, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ricky Pearsall at the 249th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
