The war room fell hard for Jaylan Ford, and it showed at the 137th pick: 25 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On value alone, Gillotte makes the weekend a net positive.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Legette at Round 1, Pick 26. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in slot 45. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cooper DeJean in No. 58 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Will Shipley at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaylan Ford in pick 137 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cole Bishop in pick No. 157. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Tre Harris in pick No. 172, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ashton Gillotte in No. 178. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
