They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Storm Duck, 39 picks early at pick 246. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Landing Bishop that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Edgerrin Cooper at slot 50 when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A tidy little value on Jermaine Burton in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Will Shipley in the 97th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dominick Puni at No. 103 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Shemar Turner at pick 137, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Cole Bishop, who had no business lasting to the 157th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Ben Bywater enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 172. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Michael Barrett at Round 6, Pick 3 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Storm Duck well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
