Thirty-one other rooms let Jeremiah Trotter Jr. slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at slot 97. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kingsley Suamataia at Round 2, Pick 18 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brandon Dorlus at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 97th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They did well to land James Williams in slot 137, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Will Shipley in the 163rd pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Chau Smith-Wade at pick 172 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nehemiah Pritchett in pick No. 178 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Phil Jurkovec in Round 7, Pick 23. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
