Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
A franchise passer in Williams headlines a A- weekend for the Commanders.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.

The Ewers pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In the end it comes back to Caleb Williams, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick13 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
Olumuyiwa Fashanu in pick 13 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick34 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims at Round 2, Pick 2 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell in pick No. 36 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick40 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter is a better player than the 40th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick49 Rnd2 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker slipping to slot 49 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick77 Rnd3 Kalen King
They barely believed it either: Kalen King still on the board at No. 77. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick100 Rnd3 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at the 100th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick102 Rnd4 Roman Wilson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Roman Wilson at No. 102. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick103 Rnd4 Quinn Ewers
They will replay Quinn Ewers at pick No. 103 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick112 Rnd4 Audric Estime
Audric Estime at slot 112 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick141 Rnd5 Cedric Gray
They robbed the room for Cedric Gray here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick173 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in the 173rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick181 Rnd6 LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Bryson Nesbit
Bryson Nesbit at pick 223 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick234 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers in Round 7, Pick 14 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick254 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
They let Eric Gentry come to them and pounced at the 254th pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
