The Commanders worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Commanders, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
They will need Isaac to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Sainristil pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while wide receiver, quarterback and other spots went begging.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, JC Latham and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In slot 8 they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
JC Latham
In pick No. 27 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
They took Bralen Trice at par in No. 36, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick40
Rnd2
Adisa Isaac
A real head-scratcher, Adisa Isaac in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the 67th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
They let Braden Fiske come to them and pounced at the 100th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick102
Rnd4
Mike Sainristil
Circle this one: Mike Sainristil at Round 4, Pick 2 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick104
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, quarterback and other spots to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick141
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in pick 141 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick181
Rnd6
Andru Phillips
They read the board right and Andru Phillips was the payoff at slot 181. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jordan Jefferson
No edge and no loss on Jordan Jefferson in the 182nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223
Rnd7
Erick All
Value with a capital V on Erick All in the Round 7 slot, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
