The 49ers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Nobody else had Joshua Cephus anywhere near Round 6, Pick 40. The 49ers did, by 51 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on cornerback with quarterback, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
