Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. The Hadden value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Calen Bullock in No. 50 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Edgerrin Cooper in the 55th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick No. 59 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in pick 67: Ja'Lynn Polk for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Gabriel Murphy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Caelen Carson at pick 91 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Tykee Smith at par in slot 93, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Mason McCormick in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyler Davis in pick No. 101 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Jacob Cowing in the 105th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Eboigbe at No. 124, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Johnny Dixon in Round 4, Pick 26; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Cole Bishop in the 127th pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A curious use of Round 4, Pick 31. Quarterback needed the pick; a linebacker in Tommy Eichenberg did not.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cedric Gray adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback untouched.
MarShawn Lloyd at No. 136 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 160 with a little surplus value in McCallan Castles. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy little value on Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 161, a step better than break-even. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
LaDarius Henderson at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fair-plus on Cody Schrader, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Kamal Hadden was still sitting there in slot 178, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Jaylan Ford in the 188th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Isaiah Williams slid further than he should have, and No. 220 is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled JD Bertrand all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Jha'Quan Jackson at the 249th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
