Nobody had Payton Wilson this high, and it is not close. The Cardinals reached 61 spots to get him at pick 85. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In slot 2 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 22
In the 21st pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 42
A conviction pick on Troy Fautanu at pick 34 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 90
Christian Haynes in pick No. 66 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 70
Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 146
They left a pile of value on the table to take Payton Wilson this early at Round 3, Pick 22. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Howard Cross III · DL · rank 118
They paid a round early for Howard Cross III in slot 102, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · James Williams · S · rank 131
They paid sticker price for James Williams in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 142
They took Nehemiah Pritchett at par in Round 5, Pick 3, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Lathan Ransom · S · rank 172
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Lathan Ransom. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Jasheen Davis · DL-EDGE · rank 204
No edge and no loss on Jasheen Davis in No. 198; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
