When a board-topper like Cam Hart slides to Round 6, Pick 23, you do not overthink it, and the Cardinals did not. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The cost of the Rattler reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.2
· Pick 2
· Marvin Harrison Jr.
· WR
· rank 1
In the 2nd pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.21
· Pick 21
· JC Latham
· OT
· rank 15
A tidy little value on JC Latham in Round 1, Pick 21, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.2
· Pick 34
· Dallas Turner
· LB-EDGE
· rank 22
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dallas Turner at slot 34. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.2
· Pick 66
· Blake Corum
· RB
· rank 69
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Corum at pick 66, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.6
· Pick 70
· Quinyon Mitchell
· CB
· rank 72
Quinyon Mitchell at the 70th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.22
· Pick 85
· Sedrick Van Pran
· C
· rank 65
The board fumbled Sedrick Van Pran all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.2
· Pick 102
· Spencer Rattler
· QB
· rank 120
They reached a country mile for Spencer Rattler at No. 102, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.33
· Pick 133
· Jamari Thrash
· WR
· rank 135
They took Jamari Thrash at par in pick No. 133, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.3
· Pick 139
· Nehemiah Pritchett
· CB
· rank 123
Nehemiah Pritchett in the 139th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R5.33
· Pick 169
· Jack Nelson
· OT
· rank 144
Somehow Jack Nelson was still sitting there in the 169th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.23
· Pick 198
· Cam Hart
· CB
· rank 172
You do not let a cornerback like Cam Hart reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.3
· Pick 223
· Zy Alexander
· CB
· rank 221
Zy Alexander in pick 223 is fair value, right on his grade. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.6
· Pick 226
· Caden Prieskorn
· TE
· rank 216
They read the board right and Caden Prieskorn was the payoff at slot 226. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
