The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Colson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots.
They are betting Trotter Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. However the rest shakes out, Jackson at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a long-term answer under center, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Terrion Arnold at the 23rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had cheaper options than Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at No. 50, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A curious use of the 53rd pick. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Junior Colson did not.
Khyree Jackson at pick 120 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mason McCormick is a better player than pick No. 161 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Tykee Smith come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for AJ Barner in slot 172, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Nathaniel Watson at the 210th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
