The rest of the league will want that one back. Roman Wilson tumbling to the Cardinals in Round 4, Pick 4 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with quarterback, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The Smith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Malik Nabers in slot 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
In the 26th pick they get a lockdown presence outside. More want than need.
Troy Fautanu in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at No. 66 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in Round 3, Pick 7 leaves quarterback, tight end and other spots for later.
Christian Mahogany at pick 89 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Roman Wilson in pick No. 104, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fair-plus on James Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A quiet steal in No. 140: Cam Hart for less than the market said. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A reach for Miyan Williams in slot 188; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
J.J. Weaver at the 225th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value with a capital V on Sheridan Jones in Round 7, Pick 7, a genuine coup. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
