The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jaylin Noel, No. 249, roughly 36 picks past where he belonged.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Braswell at slot 45, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Guyton in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tyleik Williams at pick 97 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kiran Amegadjie in Round 4, Pick 5 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Tykee Smith at the 128th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 131 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Khyree Jackson is a better player than pick No. 142 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Jaylan Ford at par in slot 156, which is nothing to complain about. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Tre Harris at pick 172 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jamari Thrash in the 177th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Jack Nelson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Zy Alexander still on the board at the Round 6 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Fair-plus on Curtis Jacobs, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Jaylin Noel in pick No. 249 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
