Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

The Steelers clearly saw something nobody else did in Moose Muhammad III, taking him 32 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Steelers indulged a want in Smith while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
In the 21st overall pick they get an island corner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick85 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A curious use of slot 85. Quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
Pick120 Rnd4 James Williams
A reach on James Williams in No. 120; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick121 Rnd4 Moose Muhammad III
They reached into another round for Moose Muhammad III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick199 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
No drama and no debate, Curtis Jacobs went about where he belonged in pick No. 199. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick242 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
A tidy little value on Eric Gentry in the 242nd overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
