After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
If Liufau pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Jones value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at pick 44, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kamren Kinchens at the 77th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Marist Liufau this early at Round 4, Pick 13. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Christian Jones at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Frank Gore Jr. a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They jumped the gun on Sheridan Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brevyn Spann-Ford well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Joshua Cephus at the 225th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Matthew Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
