Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A. There is reaching, and then there is Ryan Watts at pick 226. The Bears jumped the board by 35 and dared it to prove them wrong.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. On value alone, Turner makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Dallas Turner
Dallas Turner in the 39th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick49
Rnd2
Malachi Corley
The board had cheaper options than Malachi Corley at the 49th overall pick, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock in pick No. 75 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick122
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
Taking Brenden Rice in slot 122 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick142
Rnd5
Javon Foster
Circle this one: Javon Foster at No. 142 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick150
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
This one needs a full-page explanation: Javion Cohen in the 150th pick, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick170
Rnd5
Tip Reiman
A reach on Tip Reiman in pick No. 170; the board had better options right there. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick226
Rnd7
Ryan Watts
Value said wait; Ryan Watts in the 226th overall pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
