Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
A-
ValueC+

FutureA+
A passer of the future in Maye, and a A-, for the Bears. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Drake Nugent a full 79 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will answer for taking TE-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman and linebacker went begging.
Bottom line, with Drake Maye leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick 5 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
Pick16
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In pick No. 16 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick43
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at the 43rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick72
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A reach for Khyree Jackson in slot 72; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cade Stover
A want over a need in Round 3, Pick 11: Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE while interior defensive lineman and linebacker keeps waiting.
Pick81
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in No. 81 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Cam Hart
Cam Hart in the 88th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick103
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Johnny Wilson this early at pick No. 103. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A wild overpay on Mohamed Kamara in Round 4, Pick 11, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick114
Rnd4
Dillon Johnson
They reached into another round for Dillon Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
A real head-scratcher, Drake Nugent in slot 123 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
No edge and no loss on Dylan Laube in pick 143; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick216
Rnd6
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in pick 216 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
