The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They are betting Davis proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Jayden Daniels in the Round 1 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Braden Fiske went about where he belonged in slot 48. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jonah Elliss at pick 91 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Josh Newton in pick No. 113 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tykee Smith in Round 5, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid up for Isaiah Davis at the 148th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Layden Robinson in the 180th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Jaylan Ford in No. 196; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Washington at No. 210 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Michael Barrett in pick No. 221. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
