The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.

The Williams pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman still on the board. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Powers-Johnson. The veteran additions, Curtis Samuel chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
