Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Spencer Rattler, taking him 54 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. However the rest shakes out, Neyor at that price is a win they earned.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
A straight-up fair deal on Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 15th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick21
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the 21st pick they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Spencer Rattler
They reached a country mile for Spencer Rattler at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick53
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Worthy at pick 53. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick56
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
A tidy little value on Patrick Paul in Round 2, Pick 24, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at pick No. 110 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
They took Jaden Hicks at par in slot 127, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jordan Travis in the Round 5 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick186
Rnd6
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Good price on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in Round 6, Pick 11, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick193
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Christian Jones at No. 193 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick232
Rnd7
Isaiah Neyor
Somehow Isaiah Neyor was still sitting there in the 232nd pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick235
Rnd7
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader at the 235th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
