Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Bears.

The Jack Nelson selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 73 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. White at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick 30 they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Landon Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick52 Rnd2 Xavier Nwankpa
No edge and no loss on Xavier Nwankpa in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick62 Rnd2 Clay Webb
A conviction pick on Clay Webb at pick No. 62 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick84 Rnd3 Blake Miller
Blake Miller is a better player than Round 3, Pick 20 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110 Rnd4 Deion Burks
Deion Burks slid further than he should have, and No. 110 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
They did well to land Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 116, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick148 Rnd5 Ricky White
Ricky White at the 148th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick180 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jack Nelson in pick 180, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick182 Rnd6 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at pick No. 182 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
