The phones were a trap the Cardinals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
The Burke pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, tight end and other spots still on the board. Latham falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Hit on Chop Robinson and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. More want than need.
In pick 21 they get a double-digit-sack hope, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
JC Latham in pick No. 34 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Keon Coleman in slot 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 66th overall pick on Denzel Burke with quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved.
Trey Benson slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 6 is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fair-plus on Amarius Mims, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
