The Cardinals ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
McMillan falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Slovis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Bottom line, with Adonai Mitchell leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Guyton in slot 42 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, D.J. James went about where he belonged in No. 66. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Javon Bullard in the 71st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Christian Mahogany at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jalen McMillan reach pick 104 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tommy Eichenberg at No. 133 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Kedon Slovis at the 140th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Chau Smith-Wade in pick 188 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Miles Frazier in Round 7, Pick 7 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
