The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Dixon. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 23 they get a load in the middle at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DJ James at the 108th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A quiet steal in pick No. 129: Brenden Rice for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Isaiah Davis at par in pick 157, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Walter Rouse in the 167th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
AJ Barner slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 2 is lovely value for the tight end. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Tyrice Knight was the payoff at No. 230. A minor itch, scratched.
The board fumbled Johnny Dixon all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
