FutureA+
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the C+. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent slot 215 on Matthew Jones, a name most had 88 spots down the list. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Gray steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Hit on Kalen King and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick59
Rnd2
Kalen King
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kalen King in pick 59. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick90
Rnd3
Beaux Limmer
A wild overpay on Beaux Limmer in slot 90, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick98
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bucky Irving. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jordan Burch
They talked themselves into Jordan Burch at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick136
Rnd4
Gabe Hall
A big swing on Gabe Hall at the 136th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Zion Nelson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Zion Nelson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick213
Rnd6
Eric Gentry
They left a pile of value on the table to take Eric Gentry this early at No. 213. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones at pick 215 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick220
Rnd6
Tre Harris
They will replay Tre Harris at the 220th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Joshua Gray
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 28 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
