There is reaching, and then there is Tahj Washington at slot 148. The Raiders jumped the board by 41 and dared it to prove them wrong.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The All steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Quinyon Mitchell in the 20th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
J.J. McCarthy slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 12 is lovely value for the quarterback. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Kamari Lassiter higher than slot 51, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Michael Hall Jr. in pick 84, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in No. 98, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Matt Goncalves at pick No. 112, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tahj Washington at pick No. 148 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Layden Robinson in the Round 6 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Myles Murphy at the 208th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaylan Ford at Round 7, Pick 3 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Steal is underselling it; Erick All at No. 229 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
