FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and McGlothern: D. The trade table was where it all came apart. The 49ers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
That McGlothern pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Beebe has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In pick 7 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jer'Zhan Newton
Jer'Zhan Newton in the 34th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick38
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They went early on Cooper Beebe in Round 2, Pick 6, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kiran Amegadjie
By-the-book stuff, Kiran Amegadjie at No. 63 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94
Rnd3
Renardo Green
Taking Renardo Green in pick No. 94 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick124
Rnd4
Caelen Carson
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Caelen Carson in the 124th pick, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick131
Rnd4
James Williams
Nothing to complain about; James Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick133
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Good price on Isaac Guerendo in pick 133, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick176
Rnd6
Anthony Gould
They will replay Anthony Gould at the 176th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick211
Rnd6
Braiden McGregor
Steal is underselling it; Braiden McGregor at Round 6, Pick 36 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick215
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at slot 215 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick251
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
