Mel9er DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers won the night they stopped Worthy from sliding. Grade: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Xavier Worthy tumbling to the 49ers in Round 3, Pick 31 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. They are betting Bortolini proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In pick No. 31 they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
A clean, defensible pick in the 63rd pick with a little surplus value in Kingsley Suamataia. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Xavier Worthy
They will replay Xavier Worthy at Round 3, Pick 31 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick98
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson in the 98th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick125
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick 125 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick132
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at No. 132 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick176
Rnd6
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
A reach for Tanor Bortolini in slot 209; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick214
Rnd6
Tyrice Knight
No drama and no debate, Tyrice Knight went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick215
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
They paid sticker price for Josh Proctor in slot 215, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick249
Rnd7
LaDarius Henderson
Nothing to complain about; LaDarius Henderson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
