You can hear the double-takes from here. The Raiders took Brennan Armstrong at Round 7, Pick 14, roughly 38 spots before his name belonged. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That Beebe pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Troy Fautanu slipping to slot 44 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Spencer Rattler in the 77th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cooper Beebe at pick 112 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kamal Hadden in Round 5, Pick 14. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Julian Pearl in No. 190, a step better than break-even. The roster logic is harder to follow.
