Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB
The 49ers land in the muddy middle: C+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Andrew Raym in the Round 5 slot. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

So much rides on Ruke Orhorhoro that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro in Round 2, Pick 2 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick63 Rnd2 Marshawn Kneeland
They jumped the gun on Marshawn Kneeland, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94 Rnd3 Javon Foster
This one needs a full-page explanation: Javon Foster in the Round 3 slot, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones in pick 124 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick131 Rnd4 Christian Jones
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Jones. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133 Rnd4 Myles Cole
A big swing on Myles Cole at the 133rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick137 Rnd5 Andrew Raym
A real head-scratcher, Andrew Raym in the 137th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jaylen Harrell
Value said wait; Jaylen Harrell in slot 176 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick211 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
A reach for Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick251 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
They paid a round early for Joshua Cephus in the 251st overall pick, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
