FutureB-
The 49ers let Torrence fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Ro Torrence at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Reaching for Suamataia left real value on the table behind him. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while running back, quarterback and other spots went begging.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 31 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick No. 63 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94
Rnd3
DJ James
They robbed the room for DJ James here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick124
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mekhi Wingo at the 124th overall pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on Javon Solomon with running back, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick133
Rnd4
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. at No. 133 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ty'Ron Hopper. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick211
Rnd6
Fabien Lovett
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
They did well to land Drake Nugent in the 215th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick251
Rnd7
Ro Torrence
Ro Torrence in slot 251 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
