A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jaylen Harrell, 76 picks early at slot 131. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The McCaffrey steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

Ruke Orhorhoro in No. 63 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94 Rnd3 Javon Foster
Javon Foster in Round 3, Pick 31 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

The board had cheaper options than Elijah Jones at the 106th pick, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.

Blake Fisher at the 124th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.

They talked themselves into Jaylen Harrell at slot 131, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick146 Rnd5 Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Value said wait; Javontae Jean-Baptiste in Round 5, Pick 10 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.

Taking Luke McCaffrey in pick 176 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.

Ryan Flournoy slid further than he should have, and the 215th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.

They liked Joshua Cephus enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
