Burr DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers. If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Jaylen Wright at Round 7, Pick 32 is 58 spots clear of where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
That Clark pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In the 31st overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at pick 94 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A tidy little value on Zak Zinter in pick No. 98, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kamal Hadden
A straight-up fair deal on Kamal Hadden at No. 131, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick177
Rnd6
Bryson Nesbit
Bryson Nesbit at slot 177 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick209
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett in the 209th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick213
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern in the 213th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick215
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at pick No. 215 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jaylen Wright
They reached into another round for Jaylen Wright, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
