Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the 49ers: C+. The 49ers went off the board in a big way for Andrew Raym, 60 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The Arnold value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will answer for taking cornerback early while wide receiver, running back and other spots went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
So much rides on Sedrick Van Pran that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Sedrick Van Pran
In No. 31 they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Terrion Arnold in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick94
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
Nothing to complain about; Marshawn Kneeland went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Foster at slot 123, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick130
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at Round 4, Pick 30 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick132
Rnd4
Andru Phillips
A curious use of the 132nd pick. Wide receiver, running back and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Andru Phillips did not.
Pick175
Rnd5
Andrew Raym
This one needs a full-page explanation: Andrew Raym in the 175th overall pick, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
