A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-. The Layden Robinson pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 43 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Sedrick Van Pran
They reached into another round for Sedrick Van Pran, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kiran Amegadjie
They paid sticker price for Kiran Amegadjie in Round 2, Pick 31, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A reach on Jarrian Jones in the 124th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick133
Rnd4
Layden Robinson
A wild overpay on Layden Robinson in No. 133, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick176
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylen Harrell this early at the Round 6 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick211
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
They jumped the gun on Gabe Hall, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick215
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 215th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick251
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
They liked Joshua Cephus enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 251. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
