Gregums23 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it. The 49ers did not so much draft Decamerion Richardson as overpay for him, 67 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Flournoy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at slot 63 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
They paid sticker price for Michael Hall Jr. in No. 80, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 31; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick124
Rnd4
Roger Rosengarten
They paid a round early for Roger Rosengarten in the 124th pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at pick No. 131 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133
Rnd4
Marist Liufau
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Marist Liufau well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick176
Rnd6
Tip Reiman
Tip Reiman at slot 176 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick211
Rnd6
Ryan Flournoy
Nice patience on Ryan Flournoy, who had no business lasting to pick 211. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
A reach on Frank Gore Jr. in No. 215; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick251
Rnd7
Decamerion Richardson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Decamerion Richardson. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
