Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers won the night they stopped McGlothern from sliding. Grade: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Dwight McGlothern, the No. 175 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 249.

Jackson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In No. 31 they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa is a better player than pick 63 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick94 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
No edge and no loss on Brenden Rice in slot 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo at Round 3, Pick 35 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick125 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick132 Rnd4 Brennan Jackson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brennan Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick176 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
The board had Luke McCaffrey higher than pick No. 176, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
Value with a capital V on Jared Wiley in the 209th pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick214 Rnd6 Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace in pick 214 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick215 Rnd6 Garret Greenfield
Garret Greenfield in pick No. 215 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Dwight McGlothern
Taking Dwight McGlothern in Round 7, Pick 29 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
