Thirty-one other rooms let Tahj Washington slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at slot 210. Highway robbery.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 24 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at pick No. 52, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cedric Gray at the 108th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reach on Theo Johnson in No. 114; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Elijah Jones in the 129th pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kitan Oladapo at slot 155 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Tommy Eichenberg higher than the Round 5 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Kamal Hadden at slot 171 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tahj Washington in No. 210, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
