Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-

FutureB-
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Rosengarten: B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Roger Rosengarten slide 36 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
If Richardson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Abrams-Draine pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 31st overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in the 94th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They did well to land Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick132
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 132 leaves interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick176
Rnd6
Javon Baker
The board had cheaper options than Javon Baker at pick 176, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright is a better player than pick No. 177 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick209
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
Taking Michael Barrett in Round 6, Pick 34 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Steal is underselling it; Roger Rosengarten at No. 214 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
They read the board right and De'Corian Clark was the payoff at slot 215. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick218
Rnd6
Demani Richardson
Demani Richardson in pick 218 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick249
Rnd7
Zakhari Franklin
A quiet steal in the 249th overall pick: Zakhari Franklin for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
