Thirty-one other rooms let Brenden Rice slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at pick No. 97. Highway robbery. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Chris Braswell at the 50th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 54. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Brenden Rice in pick 97 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
